A historic event is set to close this fourth night: two legends come together to tell the story of the Jazz Epistles, one of the most important bands in the history of South Africa. Abdullah Ibrahim invites his childhood friend and one of the group’s original members, Hugh Masekela, to reimagine the music of his Ekaya project. This music was thought to be lost forever (only about 500 copies of the record were produced in 1959), but here it is again, freer and more alive than ever, on the stage of the Nice Jazz Festival.
