Cimafunk became the Cuban musical revelation of 2018 with his melody "Me Voy". He’s breaking attendance records in theatres with thousands of fans excited to dance to the groove of Afro-Cuban funk and millennials reproducing his style, which draws heavily on his African roots and 20th-century black showmen. Cimafunk's name refers to his heritage as "cimarrón*", Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery, as well as the essence of his music, which aims to subvert conventional sounds by innovating with rhythms. By bringing out the best in Cuban rhythms and traditions and infusing them with sounds and styles from Africa and the United States, Cimafunk has created something unique and special, in terms of music, but also the values he defends.
