Nice Jazz Festival 2022
Concert is over
Kenneth Barron was born in Philadelphia in 1943. He studied piano with Ray Bryant's sister, and progressed so quickly that in 1957 he was already working with Mel Melvin's orchestra, a local group in which his late brother, saxophonist Bill Barron, also played. In 1963, he joined Dizzy Gillespie's group, recommended by Moody. By the 1990s, Kenny was already universally regarded as one of the leading exponents of contemporary jazz piano. Accompanied by his faithful partners Ray Drummond on double bass and Ben Riley on drums, Barron performs at jazz festivals, concerts and clubs around the world. In Barron's own words, "... Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Wynton Kelly, you know... but I'm starting to get a little more adventurous... I like to take new risks."
